Blue Spice Bush Basil (Ocimum basilicum), offered by OSC Seeds
Blue Spice Bush Basil is a unique heirloom annual herb producing light blue-violet flower spikes with dark purple bracts. Its intense vanilla-spice aroma makes it a distinctive addition to fruit salads, poultry dishes, and more. Vigorous plants grow to a height of 50 to 70 cm and are perfect for pots, patio gardens, and windowsills.
Spread: 20 to 30 cm
Plant Height: 50 to 70 cm
Packet Size: Approximately 250 seeds
Companion Plants: Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants
Enemy Plants: Sage, rue
How to Grow:
Sow seeds directly outdoors in late May or early June in a sunny, well-warmed location, as basil cannot tolerate temperatures below 15°C. Plant seeds 4 mm deep and space them 6 mm apart. Thin seedlings to 20-25 cm. For an indoor start, sow seeds 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost, maintaining a temperature of 21°C for germination in 7 to 10 days. Keep the same temperature after germination, then harden off seedlings before transplanting outdoors once frost risk has passed.
Blue Spice Bush Basil is an excellent choice for enhancing dishes with flavor and fragrance, while its colorful flowers and aromatic foliage bring a unique ornamental touch to your garden.
