Panicum virgatum , or switchgrass , is a perennial grass native to North America, known for its elegant vertical growth, great adaptability, and superb autumnal hues. It forms upright clumps of narrow, bluish-green foliage that takes on golden, red, or purple highlights in the fall. From late summer, fine, aerial panicles tinged with pink, purple, or silver rise above the foliage, bringing lightness and movement to the garden.
