'New York Early' onion ( Allium cepa ) from Cut Leaf Northern Wildflowers, the early crop for cool climates

This cultivar produces firm, round bulbs that are ideal for storing. Hardy and resistant, it prefers well-drained soils rich in organic matter. In full sun, it thrives and produces an abundant and tasty harvest, with onions with a pleasant texture, suitable for a variety of dishes, raw or cooked.

Spread: 5 to 10 cm between each plant, 45 to 76 cm between rows
Plant height: approximately 30 to 45 cm
Quantity per pack: about 200 seeds
Companion plants: Carrots, beets, lettuce
Enemy plants: Peas, beans

Cultivation method:

For best results, start seedlings indoors at a depth of 1/4 inch about 8 weeks before the last frost. When seedlings have established strong roots, transplant them outdoors 2 to 4 weeks after the last frost. Space seedlings 2 to 4 inches apart, leaving 18 to 30 inches between rows to promote optimal growth.

In times of drought, regular watering is essential to ensure that the bulbs form well and develop their full flavor. This onion variety is ideal for cool climate gardens, offering an early harvest, perfect for canning or everyday cooking.

A tasty and easy to grow variety that will enrich your garden harvests!
