description
Tall Thimbleweed (Anemone virginiana) is a graceful native perennial admired for its elegant white summer flowers and distinctive ornamental seed heads that provide lasting beauty well into autumn. Easy to grow from Tall Thimbleweed seeds, this hardy North American wildflower reaches about 80 cm (31 in) in height and adds natural texture and movement to pollinator gardens, wildflower meadows, and ecological landscapes.
Native to eastern North America, Anemone virginiana thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts to a wide range of well-drained soils. It prefers organically rich soil with moderate moisture but remains remarkably adaptable once established. Blooming from June through August, its delicate white flowers attract native bees, butterflies, and many other beneficial pollinators before giving way to its unique plume-like seed heads, which remain highly decorative long after flowering has ended.
Tall Thimbleweed is an outstanding native perennial for naturalistic gardens, prairie plantings, and ecological restoration projects. Extremely hardy to -40°C (-40°F), it requires very little maintenance once established and contributes significantly to biodiversity while providing season-long ornamental interest.
