How to grow:
For an early start, start seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before planting outdoors. Sow 1/4 inch (6 mm) deep in soilless mix and keep at 68°F (20°C); germination takes 7 to 14 days. Start under lights at 57°F (14°C), harden off, then transplant to a sunny site after danger of frost has passed. Alternatively, sow directly in the garden from mid-May to early June. Space established plants 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 cm) apart. This short-lived perennial is hardy to zone 5, but is often grown as an annual in colder regions.
