description

Organic Oma’s Orange Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum ‘Oma’s Orange’) is a vigorous, productive, indeterminate heirloom annual variety valued for its large bright orange fruits with juicy, mild, low-acid flesh. In the vegetable garden, it brings remarkable ornamental value with its warm color and generous harvests that brighten edible garden beds. Its fruity, balanced flavor appeals to both heirloom tomato lovers and families looking for a mild tomato for fresh eating. It is excellent in salads, sandwiches, thick slices, light coulis, and summer recipes, with maturity usually around 68 days after transplanting.

Organic Oma’s Orange Tomato should be sown indoors from March to April, about 0.5 cm (1/4 in) deep, at a steady temperature of 22 to 28°C (72 to 82°F). Germination usually takes 7 to 14 days when seedlings receive proper warmth and light. After the last frosts, hardened-off plants can be transplanted into full sun, in fertile, organic-rich, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained soil. It also grows very well in large 45 to 50 cm (18 to 20 in) diameter containers. A sturdy stake, deep and regular watering, organic mulch, and balanced potassium-rich fertilization support abundant production.

In the edible garden, Organic Oma’s Orange Tomato is ideal for family vegetable gardens, edible landscapes, and heirloom tomato collections where sweetness, color, and excellent eating quality are desired. Its bright orange fruits add diversity and originality to harvests while providing a versatile table tomato for summer meals. Basil, carrot, lettuce, onion, and marigold are good companion plants, while rotation with other nightshades helps reduce certain crop issues. Its yellow flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and other pollinating insects, supporting good fruiting and beneficial biodiversity in the vegetable garden.
