description
Organic Resina Calendula (Calendula officinalis ‘Resina’) is a luminous organic annual flower valued for its large bright orange to golden-yellow blooms and abundant flowering from June through September. Highly ornamental, it brings warmth, color, and natural charm to vegetable gardens, flower borders, garden beds, and pollinator gardens. This variety is especially prized for its resin-rich flowers, traditionally used in infused oils, dried flowers, and handmade preparations. Its edible petals also add color to salads, herbal teas, and garnishes, while its nectar-rich blooms attract bees, hoverflies, and other beneficial insects.
Sow Organic Resina Calendula directly in the garden from May through June once the soil has warmed, choosing a full-sun location. It prefers light, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH and moderate fertility, since overly rich soil encourages foliage at the expense of flowers. Cover seeds with 1 to 2 cm (0.4 to 0.8 in) of soil, keep lightly moist until germination, then thin seedlings to give them enough space. Once established, it requires little maintenance, tolerates short dry periods, and flowers best with moderate watering without excess moisture.
In the garden, Organic Resina Calendula fits naturally into vegetable gardens, ecological gardens, borders, containers, and plantings near apple trees. It pairs beautifully with vegetables and culinary herbs while supporting biodiversity through its long nectar-rich bloom season. No notable incompatible companion plants are indicated, making it easy to integrate throughout the garden. Harvest flowers when fully open and deadhead regularly to encourage new buds until the first frosts. Leaving a few flowers late in the season may encourage light natural reseeding.
