Canna 'Cleopatra'

Common Name: Canna 'Cleopatra'
Plant type: Tropical annual
Botanical family: Cannaceae

Description

Canna 'Cleopatra' is a spectacular ornamental plant , grown in Quebec as an annual with decorative foliage or a non-hardy perennial with rhizomes. It seduces as much by its flamboyant flowers , often two-tone (yellow and red on the same flower stem), as by its exotic foliage varying between green, purple and variegated. This contrast of colors, sometimes random from one stem to another, makes it a star in landscaping with a tropical look. Ideal in a bed, in a pot or at the edge of a pond , canna 'Cleopatra' grows quickly in summer, provided it benefits from full sun , rich and moist soil , and regular watering . As it does not survive Quebec winters, the rhizomes must be dug up in the fall , cleaned and kept protected from frost until the following spring.
