Organic ‘Yaya’ carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus ‘Yaya’) is an early Nantes carrot recognized for smooth cylindrical uniform orange roots with blunt tips. Sources describe it as crisp, very sweet, and especially suited to bunching, baby harvest, and fresh markets. Several catalogues use the name ‘Yaya F1’, but the Biologiquement Vôtre product displays only ‘Yaya’; this profile therefore does not add the F1 suffix or hybrid status without direct lot confirmation. Roots may be eaten raw, grated, roasted, steamed, added to soup, or pickled. Their regular shape depends on finely prepared soil and thinning at the correct stage.
Direct-sow as soon as soil can be worked, then repeat sowings every two or three weeks through midsummer when enough season remains. Place seed approximately 0.5 to 1 cm deep in deep loose moist well-drained soil. Keep the surface continuously moist during the 10-to-21-day germination period. Thin with scissors to approximately 4 to 7 cm to protect neighbouring roots. Remove stones and clods, incorporate mature compost, and avoid fresh manure. Full sun supports rapid growth, while bright partial shade may protect rows during severe heat. Apply light mulch after emergence. Do not transplant because disturbance commonly forks taproots.
Sources indicate approximately 50 to 60 days for baby roots or early maturity and up to 62 to 70 days in some Canadian catalogues. Begin inspecting near 50 days, but harvest according to diameter, length, and texture instead of one fixed number. Expose a shoulder gently and lift one sample while soil is slightly moist. Trim tops while leaving a short stem and refrigerate roots separately. Monitor carrot rust fly, flea beetles, slugs, surface crusting, and water stress. Cover exposed shoulders lightly. Label the row and retain the packet so the F1 suffix is not automatically assigned to the lot. Discard roots showing rot, contamination, or uncertain storage history.
