Catnip – A Natural Grass for Your Feline

Catnip Seeds (Mixture of cereals), offered by the seed company OSC.

Catnip is a mixture of grains (barley, oats, wheat or rye) specially selected to provide cats with a natural source of fiber . Unlike the perennial Catmint (Nepeta mussinii) , which is an ornamental plant with purple flowers , catnip grows as a dense mat of young green shoots , reminiscent of soft grass.

Easy to grow indoors and outdoors, it allows cats to nibble on fresh sprigs to aid their digestion and the elimination of hairballs .

Spread : Varies depending on the container
Plant height : 10-15 cm
Companion plants : No need for companion planting
Enemy plants : None, but avoid proximity to other plants sensitive to cat scratches

Cultivation method:

  • Sow indoors or outdoors all year round, in a shallow pot or directly in the ground .
  • Sow broadcast in light, well-drained soil, then cover lightly with soil.
  • Regular watering without excess, to keep the soil moist until germination.
  • Rapid germination in 4-7 days , with optimal growth in full sun or light .
  • Harvest : As soon as the strands reach 10 cm , your cat can start enjoying them!
