Cercidiphyllum japonicum ‘Pendulum’, also known as the weeping katsura tree, is a highly ornamental grafted form of katsura, recognized for its elegant and architectural weeping habit. Its heart-shaped foliage, bronze when unfurling, turns bluish-green in summer, then takes on shades of yellow, orange, or pink in autumn, while releasing a sweet fragrance reminiscent of caramel or maple syrup. Its weeping silhouette forms a dense, rounded cascade, perfect as a focal point in a structured garden, a rock garden, or near a body of water. Very hardy and easy to maintain, it thrives in cool, deep, well-drained soil, in sunny non-scorching or semi-shaded conditions. ‘Pendulum’ is a tree of character, at once sculptural, sensory, and perfectly adapted to the Quebec climate.
