description

Purple Coneflower ( Echinacea purpurea ), from the Jardins de l'Écoumène, is a majestic perennial plant, known for its many medicinal virtues and its ornamental beauty. Its pink, daisy-like flowers, with a central orange-brown cone, add a colorful and natural touch to borders and beds. Growing 1 to 1.5 meters tall, this robust and resistant plant attracts pollinators and fits perfectly into ecological gardens.

Purple coneflower is also prized for its medicinal properties. Prepared as an infusion, it offers tonic and soothing effects, strengthening the immune system and relieving sore throats.

Easy to grow, sow directly in the ground in spring or fall, or start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Sow 1/4 inch deep in well-drained, organically rich soil. Place plants in full sun for best flowering. Plant stems 12-16 inches apart to allow for good air circulation.

Water regularly during dry spells and prune faded flowers to encourage prolonged blooming. Leave a few flower heads at the end of the season to allow birds to enjoy the seeds and for naturalization.

Perfect for gardeners looking for a plant that is both aesthetically pleasing and beneficial, Purple Coneflower is an asset to any garden, combining vibrant colours, health benefits and contribution to biodiversity.
