Cornus alternifolia, or alternate-leaved dogwood, is a small tree with an elegant, tiered habit, prized for its white flowers in spring umbels and blue fruits on red stems in summer. Its foliage turns golden yellow in autumn. Ideal as a standalone tree or at the edge of a woodland, it thrives in cool, well-drained soil. Hardy and architectural, it brings a natural, soft structure to partial shade gardens.
