Seeds can be started indoors in February in a soilless growing medium and transplanted in spring. Sow directly outdoors from mid-April, 8-15mm deep with 15mm spacing between seeds. Thin to 5cm for cooking onions or 7.5cm for sweet Spanish types. Bend the flower stalks to direct the plant's energy into the bulb. Onions prefer a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Germination in 1-2 weeks. One packet will sow about 6m of row.
