Cultivation method:

Start seeds indoors about 10 weeks before the last expected frost date. Soak seeds in water overnight before sowing 1/4 inch (6 mm) deep in rich potting soil. Maintain a temperature of 80°F (27°C) to promote rapid germination. Once seeds germinate, continue to grow seedlings under bright light at a slightly cooler temperature of 72°F (23°C).

Harden off seedlings gradually before transplanting outdoors after all risk of frost has passed. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter, spacing them 60 cm (24 inches) apart and leaving 90 cm (36 inches) between rows. Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture and apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer to support fruit growth.

About 3 to 4 weeks before the first fall frost, pinch off new flowers to focus the plant's energy on ripening existing fruit. Harvest eggplants when they are a bright dark purple and do not spring back after a gentle squeeze.
