Beans grow in a wide range of soils, but thrive best in light, organic, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.5. Sow directly when the soil temperature reaches at least 16°C (61°F). Plant the seeds 2.5 cm (1 inch) deep, spaced 8 cm (3 inches) apart, with rows 45-70 cm (18-27 inches) apart. For a continuous harvest, sow every 10 days until mid-July. Maintain consistent watering during flowering and pod production. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers to prevent excessive foliage growth. Handle the plants only when the leaves are dry to minimize disease. Germination takes approximately 8 days.
