description
Tomato ‘Persuasion’ (Solanum lycopersicum) is an indeterminate variety developed in 2015 by Brad Gates, prized for its small, meaty fruits and exceptionally attractive appearance. Their pink-orange color, enhanced by green and golden stripes, creates an almost iridescent glow in sunlight and brings strong ornamental value to the vegetable garden. Their juicy, sweet, rich flesh develops remarkable depth of flavor, with a delicious balance between sweetness and intensity. Grown as an annual in Canada, this mid-season tomato matures in 75 to 85 days, produces abundantly until autumn, and stores exceptionally well after harvest.
Tomato ‘Persuasion’ thrives in full sun in rich, fertile, well-drained soil with regular watering to support continuous production. Start seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last expected frost at an ideal temperature of 22 to 28°C (72 to 82°F) to encourage fast, vigorous germination. After the last frost, transplant seedlings into the garden or containers, spacing plants approximately 50 cm (20 in) apart. Since plants can reach 1.5 to 2 m (5 to 6.5 ft) tall, sturdy support is recommended, along with mulch around the base to conserve moisture and reduce growing stress.
In the garden, this tomato is ideal for gourmet vegetable gardens, large patio planters, containers of at least 15 L (4 gal), and ornamental edible landscapes where a colorful, productive, and refined variety is desired. It grows well alongside herbs, annual flowers, and seasonal vegetables that attract pollinators and enrich biodiversity throughout the garden. Its thin-skinned fruits are delicious fresh, picked directly from the plant, in colorful salads, antipasti, sliced with olive oil and salt, delicate sauces, or slow-cooked dishes where their mild, balanced flavor can fully develop.
