The 'Nantes Mini Core' carrot forms short, cylindrical roots with smooth skin and bright orange flesh , featuring a very small, almost imperceptible core . Its texture is tender and crisp , offering a naturally sweet flavor that is particularly pleasant when eaten fresh. The fine, upright, bright green foliage complements its regular and uniform growth.
Produced from seeds inherited from the 19th century , this mini Nantes carrot is prized for its versatility and ease of cultivation , particularly in containers, raised beds , or small gardens. Harvested young, between 8 and 13 cm , it is perfect for snacking ; left to mature, it can reach approximately 18 cm in length and 4 cm in diameter , while retaining its tenderness. Farming method
Sow directly outdoors as soon as the ground is workable, at a depth of 1.2 cm , in loose, deep, well-crumbled soil free of stones. Sow successively from spring until mid-summer to extend the harvest. Thin to 2.5 to 5 cm between plants, with rows spaced 45 to 60 cm apart.
Carrots prefer partial sun (level 2) and light but regular watering (level 1) . Consistent moisture promotes straight and well-formed roots.
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest when the roots reach a deep orange color and fully developed flavor , generally around 70 days after sowing . In summer, they can remain in the ground for about 3 weeks after maturity , and longer in cooler conditions. Store at 0°C , with approximately 95% humidity and good air circulation.
