Organic 'Purple Sun' carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) from the seed company Gaia, a vigorous hybrid variety with purple flesh and a yellow core

The 'Purple Sun' carrot forms large, conical roots with deep purple skin and crisp flesh , featuring a small, bright yellow, well-defined core at its center. The shoulders are perfectly rounded and the ends are evenly tapered , resulting in a uniform and elegant root. The texture is firm and juicy, with a naturally sweet flavor , particularly enjoyable fresh or processed.

Selected specifically for juice production , this hybrid variety is distinguished by its vigorous growth and richness in antioxidant flavonoids , responsible for both its deep color and its real nutritional benefits . It retains excellent flavor even at full maturity and can remain in the ground for several weeks after summer ripening, or even longer in winter. The leaves are edible , adding another use to the harvest.

Farming method

Sow directly outdoors as soon as the ground is workable, at a depth of 1.2 cm , in loose, deep, well-crumbled soil free of stones. Sow successively from spring until mid-summer to extend the harvest. Thin to 2.5 to 5 cm between plants, with rows spaced 45 to 60 cm apart.

Carrots prefer partial sun (level 2) and light but regular watering (level 1) . Consistent moisture promotes straight growth and reduces root splitting.

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the carrot has reached its full purple color and well-developed flavor , generally around 110 days after sowing . In summer, the roots can remain in the ground for about 3 weeks after maturity , and even longer in cool winter conditions. Store at 0°C , with approximately 95% humidity and good air circulation.
