Organic 'Jack-O'-Lantern' Pumpkin
Organic 'Jack-O'-Lantern' pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) from Gaia seed company, a classic variety for carving and autumn cooking
The 'Jack-O'-Lantern' pumpkin develops vigorous, creeping vines , accompanied by broad, dark green foliage that effectively protects the fruit as it ripens. The pumpkins are oblong with a slightly flattened base , stand firmly on the ground, have subtle ribbing , and turn a bright, vibrant orange when ripe. The fruits typically weigh 4 to 7 kg and measure 20 to 25 cm in diameter , with thick, fine-grained flesh that ranges in color from yellow to orange.
A true Halloween icon , this variety is prized for both carving and culinary use , thanks to its easy-to-work flesh. Versatile and reliable, it offers good fruit uniformity and excellent post-harvest shelf life. The flowers are edible , adding extra appeal to this traditional autumn garden pumpkin.

Farming method
Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for up to 24 hours and lightly scarify them to encourage germination. Sow at a depth of 2.5 cm , either indoors 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost , or directly outdoors in late May or early June , when the soil temperature reaches 25°C . For outdoor cultivation, sow 2 to 3 seeds per hill , spaced 4.5 to 6 meters apart, then thin to one plant when the seedlings reach 7 to 10 cm .
Pumpkins prefer full sun (level 3) and consistent watering (level 3) . To obtain well-formed fruit, limit the number of pumpkins per plant after the first fruit sets.
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest when the fruit is a bright orange color , the peel becomes difficult to cut with a fingernail , and the stain on the ground changes from creamy yellow to orange . Cut the fruit, leaving about 5 cm of stem to prevent rot. Allow to ripen in a warm, dry place, then store at 10-12°C , with 55-75% humidity and good air circulation.
