Organic 'Muncher' Cucumber ( Cucumis sativus ) – offered by Gaia, a must-have for salads and marinades

The 'Muncher' cucumber is a Middle Eastern-type heirloom variety , prized for its thin, tender, thornless skin and crisp, non-bitter flesh . Versatile , it is ideal in salads or pickled gherkins , retaining a firm, pleasant texture after canning .

Its fruits measure 10 to 15 cm on average , but can reach up to 23 cm , while remaining sweet and tasty . Its late and abundant production makes it an excellent choice to extend the summer harvest.

Spread : Trailing or climbing plant

Cultivation method

To improve germination, soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours and scarify lightly before sowing.

Sowing can be done directly in the open ground after the last frosts , or started indoors 3 to 4 weeks before planting for an earlier harvest.

Muncher prefers well-drained soil, rich in organic matter, and full sun exposure . Space plants 12 to 24 inches apart and rows 24 to 36 inches apart .

Harvesting and conservation

Harvest cucumbers every 1 to 2 days , when they are 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm ), to stimulate production and prevent them from becoming too large.

They can be stored for up to 10 days in the refrigerator , at 10-12°C with 95% humidity .
