Organic Cosmos 'Cosmos Mix' (Cosmos spp.) from the seed company Gaia, a heritage blend with colorful and delicate blooms

The 'Cosmos Mix' cosmos forms slender plants with a graceful, airy habit , composed of finely cut, light green foliage that brings lightness and movement to the garden. This mix combines several cosmos varieties, offering a palette of vibrant and soft colors , including yellow, white, pink, red, and orange , borne on simple flowers with broad petals and contrasting centers. Flowering is abundant and prolonged , extending throughout the summer when conditions are favorable.

An annual plant capable of self-seeding , cosmos is valued as much for its ornamental appeal as for its ecological role. It attracts a wide variety of pollinators , while remaining easy to grow and tolerant of poorer soils, making it a reliable choice for naturalistic gardens and summer flowerbeds.

Farming method

Sow the seeds 0.3 cm deep , either indoors in early spring or directly outdoors once all risk of frost has passed . Space the plants 30 to 45 cm apart and the rows 45 to 60 cm apart , in light, well-drained soil , even moderately fertile, to encourage abundant flowering rather than excessive foliage.

Cosmos prefers full sun (level 3) and moderate watering (level 2) . Once established, it tolerates drought relatively well and requires little intervention.

Maintenance and flowering

Regularly remove faded flowers to encourage the growth of new flower stalks and prolong the blooming period. Successive sowings can be done to extend the flowering period into early autumn. At the end of the season, allowing a few flowers to go to seed promotes natural reseeding .
