Cultivation method

For optimal germination, it is recommended to stratify the seeds for 2 to 4 weeks . This technique consists of placing the seeds in the cold to break their dormancy and improve their emergence.

Direct sowing in open ground is the easiest and should be done after the last frost . It is also possible to sow indoors 4 to 6 weeks before transplanting to obtain earlier flowering. The seeds should be very lightly covered , as they need light to germinate.

Gaillardia prefers dry, well-drained soil , even sandy or rocky. Full sunlight is essential to ensure abundant and long-lasting flowering . It tolerates heat and drought well , requiring little watering once well established. If flowering diminishes in summer, it is advisable to prune faded flowers to stimulate new flowering.

Harvesting and conservation

Gaillardia is perennial , but it reseeds spontaneously if the seeds are left standing at the end of the season. To prolong flowering and prevent excessive spread, it is possible to harvest the ripe seeds and store them in a dry place to sow them the following year.

With its exceptional resistance , its beneficial ecological role and its flamboyant flowers , the gaillardia 'Blanket Flower' is an essential choice for a natural and colorful garden!
