Organic climbing bean 'Gold Marie' ( Phaseolus vulgaris ) – offered by Gaia, a golden vine with generous production

The 'Gold Marie' pole bean is a vigorous heirloom variety distinguished by its bright yellow, flattened pods , offering a tender texture and mild bean flavor . Highly productive, this bean develops long, lush vines that require a sturdy stake or trellis to support their growth.

Ideal for picking young , when the pods reach about 15 cm , this bean can be enjoyed fresh, sautéed, or blanched to reveal all its flavor. Its exceptional yield and natural resistance make it a perfect choice for gardeners looking for an abundant and tasty crop .

Did you know?

Yellow beans like Gold Marie are often called butter beans , due to their natural sweetness and melt-in-the-mouth texture after cooking. Their golden color makes them easier to spot among the foliage, making harvesting easier!

Plant height : 1.80 to 2.50 m
Quantity per pack : ± 40 seeds
Companion plants : Corn, carrot, cabbage, cucumber, peas, radish, potato, squash, nasturtium, rosemary

Cultivation method

Before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water for up to 8 hours to improve germination. Sow directly into the open ground after the last frosts , when the soil temperature is above 21°C .

The 'Gold Marie' bean prefers a rich, well-drained, slightly moist soil , as well as exposure to full sun . A spacing of 8 to 10 cm between plants and 15 to 30 cm between rows is ideal to ensure good air circulation . Watering should be moderate , avoiding excess moisture to prevent fungal diseases.

For a prolonged harvest throughout the summer, it is advisable to carry out successive sowings every three weeks . This variety reaches maturity in about 75 days , producing fleshy and tender pods over a long period .

Harvesting and conservation

The pods should be harvested regularly , before they become too fibrous. For continuous production , it is recommended to pick the beans every 2 to 3 days .

Fresh beans can be eaten immediately or frozen after blanching for optimum storage. If you want to save dried beans , allow the pods to fully ripen on the vine before harvesting and storing them in a dry, ventilated place .

With its bright golden color , its excellent productivity and its sweet and melting flavor , the climbing bean 'Gold Marie' is an essential choice for a generous and colorful vegetable garden!
