Organic climbing bean 'Violetta Rampicante' ( Phaseolus vulgaris ) – offered by Gaia, a spectacular variety with purple pods and a generous yield

The climbing bean 'Violetta Rampicante' is a vigorous heirloom variety distinguished by its long, elegant purple pods that turn green when cooked . Thin and slightly curly, this bean is particularly tasty when harvested young , at the size of a pencil.

Highly productive, it ensures an abundant and continuous harvest , provided it is picked regularly . Its rapid and climbing growth requires a solid trellis or stakes , making it an excellent choice for vertical vegetable gardens and raised crops .

Did you know?

Purple beans like Violetta Rampicante get their color from a natural pigment called anthocyanin , a powerful antioxidant that is beneficial for health. This hue disappears when cooked, revealing a tender and flavorful green bean .

Spread : Climbing plant requiring support
Plant height : 1.80 to 2.50 m
Quantity per pack : ± 40 seeds
Companion plants : Corn, carrot, cabbage, cucumber, peas, radish, potato, squash, nasturtium, rosemary
Enemy plants : Alliums (onions, garlic, leek), beetroot

Cultivation method

Before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water for up to 8 hours to improve germination. Sow directly into the open ground after the last frost , when the soil temperature reaches at least 21°C .

Violetta Rampicante thrives in rich, well-drained, slightly moist soil , in full sun exposure . To ensure optimal growth , it is recommended to space the plants 8 to 10 cm apart in the row and to have a distance of 15 to 30 cm between the rows . Moderate and regular watering allows for tender and tasty pods throughout the season.

In order to prolong the harvest, it is advisable to carry out successive sowings every three weeks . This variety reaches maturity in about 65 days and continues to produce as long as the pods are harvested frequently .

Harvesting and conservation

Beans should be picked young and thin , to take advantage of their crisp texture and delicate flavor . For continuous production , it is best to harvest every 2 to 3 days .

Fresh beans can be eaten immediately or frozen after blanching for longer storage. To recover dried beans , allow the pods to fully ripen on the vine before harvesting and storing them in a dry, ventilated place .

With its spectacular color , impressive yield and delicate taste , the climbing bean 'Violetta Rampicante' is an essential variety for a vegetable garden that is as beautiful as it is productive!
