Farming method

Sow directly outdoors in early spring , as soon as the soil temperature exceeds 4°C (39°F ). Sow at a depth of 2.5 cm (1 inch), spacing the seeds 2.5 to 5 cm (1 to 2 inches) apart, with 30 cm (12 inches) between rows. Lentils prefer well-drained , poor soil: excessive fertility encourages foliage growth at the expense of pods. Full sun (level 3) and moderate watering (level 2). Germination takes 5 to 10 days at temperatures between 21 and 30°C (70-86°F) (optimum 25°C/77°F).

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the pods turn brown and begin to dry . Cut the entire plant and hang it upside down in a dry, well-ventilated place (garage, shed). Beat the bunch to release the seeds. Store the completely dry lentils in an airtight container in a cool place; they will keep for over a year .
