Farming method

Sow directly in early spring when the soil becomes workable, or in early autumn for a late harvest. Sow the seeds 6 mm deep, 3 seeds per 2.5 cm , in rows spaced 10 cm apart. Thin to 5 cm between plants. Lamb's lettuce prefers cool temperatures and moist soil. To extend the harvest, sow successively every two weeks in spring. Germination takes 7 to 21 days at temperatures between 10 and 21°C (optimum 16°C). Exposure: Partial sun/Low shade (level 2), moderate watering (level 2).

Harvesting and preservation

Gently gather the small rosettes together and cut them back to 2.5 to 5 cm above the ground to encourage regrowth. Fifty feet in a row will provide a bowlful of fresh leaves each week. Store the harvest for up to 3 days in a plastic bag in the refrigerator.
