The 'Tigger' melon is a spectacular heirloom variety, originating in an Armenian market and brought to North America by Baker Creek Heirloom. Its small, approximately 1-pound fruits boast a bright yellow rind marked with dark orange zigzag stripes , giving it the appearance of a small tiger melon. Their white flesh , slightly sweet and highly aromatic, makes it a refreshing and decorative fruit, ideal for gardens seeking originality and an exotic touch. Farming method
Soak the seeds for up to 24 hours in lukewarm water and lightly scarify them to improve germination. Sow directly 1 to 2 weeks after the last frost , or start seeds indoors 4 weeks before planting out. Sow at a depth of 1.25 cm . Plant in full sun (level 3) with moderate watering (level 2). Space plants 90 to 105 cm apart, with 150 cm between rows. Germination takes 4 to 10 days at temperatures between 18 and 32 °C (optimal 23–30 °C).
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest when the fruit turns bright yellow , a sign of ripeness. Ripe melons can be stored for up to 4 weeks in a cool, well-ventilated area.
