Farming method
Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost . Plant the seeds 3–6 mm deep in a light potting mix and maintain a temperature of 23–29°C for optimal germination (5–10 days). During hardening off, reduce watering and nitrogen application to strengthen the tissues and prevent etiolation.
Transplant after all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60–90 cm (24–36") apart, leaving 120–180 cm (4–6') between rows. Provide full sun (level 3) , regular watering (level 3) , and very sturdy staking , as the giant fruits exert significant pressure on the stems.
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest when the fruit turns a uniform lime green , becomes slightly soft, and reveals a pinkish hue inside . To get a head start, you can pick them at the first light blush , then let them ripen off the vine at 22°C or higher . Store your harvest between 12–21°C , in 95% relative humidity, to maintain juiciness.
