Organic 'Barry's Crazy Cherry' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, a pale yellow cherry variety with incredible productivity, light, sweet and perfect for hanging baskets

The 'Barry's Crazy Cherry' tomato, an exuberant creation of Brad Gates (Wild Boar Farms), is famous for its absolutely insane production of cherry tomatoes . Mid-season, it forms long clusters of dozens—sometimes hundreds—of small, pale yellow fruits that are almost translucent in the sunlight. Their flavor is sweet, fruity, light, and pleasantly aromatic , with excellent post-harvest shelf life, making it a popular variety for snacks, summer salads, and tasting platters.

Its naturally flexible and airy habit makes it perfect for hanging baskets or plantings where a dramatic cascading effect is desired. Indeterminate, highly productive, and vigorous, it is as easy to grow as it is spectacular to behold. A joyful, bright, and generous variety – exactly as its name suggests.

Farming method

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost . Place the seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in a light potting mix at 23–29 °C for germination in 5 to 10 days . During hardening off, reduce water and nitrogen to strengthen the tissues.

Transplant into open ground or hanging baskets after all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60 to 90 cm (24–36") apart with 120 to 180 cm (4–6') between rows. Provide a trellis or trailing support , depending on the intended use. Give it full sun and regular watering (level 3).

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the cherries change from a very pale yellow to a slightly glossy, creamy yellow . To get an early start, pick them as soon as they begin to blush , then let them ripen off the vine at 22°C or higher . Store them between 12–21°C , with 95% relative humidity , to preserve their remarkable firmness.
