Organic 'Bosque Plum Blue' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, a spectacular small blue-plum tomato, rich in anthocyanins and deliciously aromatic

The 'Bosque Plum Blue' tomato is a true two-tone gem, as decorative as it is delicious. Indeterminate and productive mid-season, it develops small, round fruits that, when exposed to the sun, display a deep blue skin —a coloration due to a high concentration of anthocyanins , similar to those found in blueberries. As it ripens, this vibrant blue gradually gives way to an intense plum-purple hue , creating a striking contrast between the dark top and the lighter underside.

Its flavor is rich, robust, and fruity , ideal for eating fresh, elegant salads, colorful platters, or recipes where you want to impress with both appearance and taste. A captivating heirloom variety, refined and perfect for gardeners curious about tomatoes with complex pigmentation.

Farming method

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before planting out . Place seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in light soil at a temperature of 23–29 °C for germination in 5–10 days . Reduce water and nitrogen during hardening off to strengthen seedlings.

Transplant outdoors once all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60 to 90 cm (24–36") apart, with 120 to 180 cm (4–6') between rows. Provide full sun (essential for maximum blue color), regular watering (level 3) , and sturdy staking .

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the base of the fruit turns a deep plum color , while the sun-exposed area retains a blue-black pigmentation. To bring forward the harvest, pick when the fruit shows its first color change , then allow it to ripen off the vine at 22°C or above . Store between 12–21°C , at 95% humidity .
