Organic 'Dixie Golden Giant' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, a giant lemon-yellow, smooth, fruity and luminous

The 'Dixie Golden Giant' tomato is a magnificent heirloom variety from the Southern United States, renowned for its very large, bright, and vibrant lemon-yellow fruit . Indeterminate and vigorous, it produces enormous tomatoes with smooth, fruity, and sweet flesh in mid-season, perfect for thick slices, tasting plates, or elegant summer salads. Although massive, this tomato retains a supple and pleasing texture, with a balanced flavor that appeals to both lovers of sweet tomatoes and those who appreciate colorful heirloom varieties.

Farming method

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before planting out . Sow seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in a light potting mix and maintain a temperature of 23–29 °C for germination in 5 to 10 days . Reduce watering and nitrogen during the hardening-off period to encourage strong seedlings.

Transplant when all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60–90 cm (24–36") apart, with 120–180 cm (4–6') between rows. Provide full sun (level 3) , regular watering (level 3) , and sturdy staking , as the fruit can become very heavy.

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the fruit is a uniform lemon yellow and slightly soft. To get a head start, pick fruit that has already begun to color , then let it ripen at 22°C or higher . Store at 12–21°C and 95% relative humidity to preserve its fruity texture.
