Organic 'Gold Nugget' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, an ultra-early yellow cherry tomato, sweet, productive and surprisingly cold-tolerant

The 'Gold Nugget' tomato is a prized heirloom variety for gardeners in cooler climates. Indeterminate and highly productive, it is renowned as one of the earliest yellow tomatoes , offering an abundance of small, bright yellow, extraordinarily sweet fruits about 1 inch in diameter right from the start of the season—often described as the sweetest in the garden. Its cold tolerance allows it to thrive where other cherry tomatoes are slow to establish, while continuing to produce steadily throughout the summer.

Its juicy, bright, and irresistible fruits are perfect for snacks, salads, kebabs, or colorful platters. Productive, reliable, easy to grow, and delicious, 'Gold Nugget' truly deserves its name.

Farming method

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before planting out . Place seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in light soil and maintain a temperature of 23–29 °C for germination in 5 to 10 days . Reduce water and nitrogen during hardening off to produce well-formed seedlings.

Transplant after all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60–90 cm (24–36") apart and allow 120–180 cm (4–6') between rows. Provide full sun (level 3) and regular watering (level 3) . Light to medium staking is recommended to support continued production.

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the fruit is a uniform bright yellow . To advance the harvest, pick the fruit showing its first signs of color , then let it ripen off the vine at 22°C or above . Store between 12–21°C , at 95% relative humidity , to maintain its juiciness.
