The 'Green Doctor' tomato is a remarkable heirloom variety, renowned for being the sweetest in numerous comparative trials . Indeterminate and highly productive, it offers an abundance of small, light green tomatoes that become translucent when ripe, with a bright, fruity flavor and surprising sweetness for a green variety. Farming method
Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before planting out . Sow seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in a light potting mix and maintain a temperature of 23–29°C , ensuring germination in 5 to 10 days . Reduce watering and nitrogen during the hardening-off period to produce strong seedlings.
Transplant after all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36 inches) apart, and leave 120 to 180 cm (4 to 6 feet) between rows. Provide full sun (level 3) , regular watering (level 3) , and install sturdy supports , which are necessary to support the abundant harvest.
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest when the fruit becomes slightly soft to the touch: this is when its sweetness is fully expressed. To advance the harvest, pick those that show their first yellowish-translucent color , then let them ripen off the vine at 22°C or above . Store them then between 12–21°C , at 95% relative humidity .
