Organic 'Mini Rose Cherry' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from Gaia seed company, a vigorous, early and extraordinarily productive Canadian pink cherry tomato

The 'Mini Rose Cherry' tomato is a heritage variety from the renowned Ottawa Central Experimental Farm , selected in 1970 as part of the "Ottawa 85" program. Indeterminate but naturally bushy and very vigorous , it offers an exceptional yield of small, medium-sized pink cherry tomatoes with a sweet, delicate, and deliciously balanced flavor. It begins producing early in the season and reaches its peak production towards the end of August, continuing its generous yield until the first frosts.

Its juicy texture and subtle aroma make it a perfect tomato for fresh snacks, summer salads, or colorful dishes. Thanks to its compact and robust growth habit, 'Mini Rose Cherry' is also ideal for large pots , making it a remarkable variety for urban gardens, balconies, and small gardens.

Farming method

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in a light potting mix, then maintain a temperature of 23–29°C until germination (5–10 days). Reduce water and nitrogen during hardening off to produce short, sturdy plants.

Transplant once the risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36") apart with 120 to 180 cm (4 to 6') between rows. Ensure full sun (level 3) , regular watering (watering level 3) , and sturdy staking , as despite its bushy habit, this variety is indeterminate and produces abundantly.

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the fruit is a bright, uniform pink. To get a head start, pick the fruit as soon as it begins to color , then let it ripen off the vine at 22°C or higher . Store between 12 and 21°C at 95% relative humidity to maintain freshness and juiciness.

Usage ideas

• Excellent as a fresh, sweet, and juicy snack
• Perfect for summer salads and colorful bowls
• Ideal for kebabs or quick meals
• Superb when presented in bunches , thanks to its generous growth habit

The 'Mini Rose Cherry' tomato is a little Canadian marvel: beautiful, productive, sweet, and perfectly suited to modern gardens. An essential heirloom variety for anyone wanting a reliable, flavorful, and charming pink cherry tomato.
