Organic 'Orange Jazz' Tomato
Organic 'Orange Jazz' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from seed producer Gaia, a gourmet orange beefsteak, sweet and slightly crunchy, by Artisan Seeds
The 'Orange Jazz' tomato, developed by Fred Hempel (Artisan Seeds), is a modern heirloom variety that won over tasters from the very first trials. Indeterminate, vigorous, and highly productive, it yields magnificent, bright, and generous orange beefsteak tomatoes with a flavor that is sweet, fruity, complex , and subtly perfumed with a hint of peach . Its texture is particularly remarkable: juicy and meaty, yet with a slight crispness that clearly distinguishes it from other beefsteak tomatoes.

Farming method
Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in a light potting mix. Maintain a temperature of 23–29°C to achieve rapid germination in 5 to 10 days . Reduce watering and nitrogen during hardening off to produce strong, resilient plants.
Transplant when temperatures stabilize. Space the plants 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36") apart, with 120 to 180 cm (4 to 6') between rows. Provide full sun (level 3) and regular watering (watering level 3) . Very sturdy staking is essential to support the heavy stems and the plant's vigorous growth.
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest when the fruit has developed a warm orange hue and a slightly soft texture. To advance the harvest, pick those showing their first signs of color , then let them ripen off the vine at 22°C or above . Store the fruit between 12 and 21°C , with 95% relative humidity, to preserve its delicate flavor and crisp texture.
