Organic 'Sweet Curtain' Tomato
Organic 'Rideau Sweet' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, an intensely sweet red cherry tomato with remarkable productivity
The 'Rideau Sweet' tomato is a heritage variety selected by Ken Allan from the renowned Sweet One Hundred, but refined to offer even more pronounced sweetness and exceptional abundance. Indeterminate and vigorous, it produces generous clusters of small, crisp, juicy red cherry tomatoes with a flavor that ranks among the sweetest of all traditional cherry tomatoes . Their fine texture, glossy sheen, and unusually small seed size make them a pleasure to pick and enjoy, whether straight from the garden or in summer salads. This variety never disappoints in terms of yield: it produces relentlessly from mid-season until the first frosts.
Its regular foliage and indeterminate growth habit ensure vigorous growth, ideal for trellises or sturdy supports. 'Rideau Sweet' is one of those cherry tomatoes that quickly become indispensable in the vegetable garden, both for their delicious flavor and their reliability.

Farming method
Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Place the seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in a light potting mix and maintain a temperature of 23–29°C for rapid germination, usually in 5 to 10 days . Reduce watering and nitrogen during hardening off to produce strong, vigorous seedlings.
Transplant outdoors once all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36 inches) apart with 120 to 180 cm (4 to 6 feet) between rows. Provide full sun (level 3) and regular watering (watering level 3) . Sturdy staking is essential to support continued growth and abundant fruit clusters.
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest when the fruit has turned a bright, vibrant red, indicating optimal sugar content. To advance the harvest, pick tomatoes that have just begun to color , then let them ripen off the vine at 22°C or higher . Store them between 12 and 21°C with 95% relative humidity to preserve their freshness and juiciness.
