Organic 'Washington Cherry' tomato
Organic 'Washington Cherry' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, an early and compact red cherry tomato ideal for small spaces
The 'Washington Cherry' tomato is a determinate heirloom variety, bred to provide a fast and abundant yield of small, round, juicy, red cherry tomatoes. Very early maturing, it begins to ripen early in the season and continues to produce evenly on compact, easy-to-manage plants. Thanks to its determinate growth habit, it is ideal for growing in pots, window boxes, small gardens, and for mass production.
Its balanced flavor—sweet, slightly tangy, and very pleasant to eat fresh—makes it an excellent tomato for snacking, adding to salads, or serving as an appetizer. It is also hardy and reliable, performing well even in varying climates.

Farming method
Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Place the seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in fine potting soil and maintain a temperature of 23–29°C for optimal germination (5–10 days). Reduce watering and nitrogen application during hardening-off to produce strong seedlings before transplanting.
Transplant outdoors once all risk of frost has passed, spacing plants 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36") apart and rows 120 to 180 cm (4 to 6'). Provide full sun (level 3) and regular watering (watering level 3). Staking can be light or optional due to the determinate growth habit.
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest when the fruit has turned a deep red and has a slightly soft texture. To advance the harvest, pick them at the first sign of color and let them ripen off the vine at 22°C or above. Store the fruit between 12 and 21°C with a relative humidity of around 95%.
