Farming method
Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Place the seeds 3 to 6 mm (1/8 to 1/4") deep in a light potting mix and maintain a temperature between 23 and 29°C to encourage rapid germination (5 to 10 days). During hardening off, reduce watering and nitrogen application to strengthen the seedlings.
Transplant outdoors when nighttime temperatures are above 10°C (50°F) and all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60-90 cm (24-36") apart and rows 120-180 cm (4-6') apart. Provide a sunny location (level 3) and regular watering (level 3). As this is an indeterminate mix, sturdy staking is essential to support growth and fruiting.
Maturity varies depending on the varieties included, between 65 and 90 days.
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest the fruit when it reaches its characteristic yellow hue and a soft firmness. For greater flexibility, pick them when the first color appears, then let them ripen off the vine at a temperature of 22°C or higher.
Store the fruit at 12–21 °C and at a relative humidity of approximately 95% for optimal preservation.
