Farming method
Seed stratification is necessary for two weeks before sowing. Sow indoors 10 to 12 weeks before planting out, at a depth of 6 mm (1/4"). Keep the seeds in complete darkness until germination, which occurs in approximately 10 to 14 days. Maintain a temperature between 18 and 25 °C, with an optimum around 21 °C.
Transplant outdoors when the cool spring temperatures return, spacing plants 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 inches) apart and rows 30 to 35 cm (12 to 14 inches) apart. Choose a location in full sun (level 3) or partial shade, with well-drained soil. Water moderately (level 2). This viola thrives in cool conditions and tolerates mild autumn weather.
