Chinese Juniper 'Fairview' (Juniperus chinensis 'Fairview'). Juniperus chinensis 'Fairview' is a large, ornamental, shrubby juniper, valued for its upright and spreading habit as well as its dense, elegant blue-green foliage. This variety stands out for its robust and well-branched structure, forming over time a large conifer shrub that is wider than strictly columnar, ideal for visual screens, informal hedges, and as a specimen plant. Its evergreen foliage, composed of fine, slightly prickly needles, maintains a stable color all year round, providing a structural presence even in winter.
To plant Chinese juniper 'Fairview', choose a suitable exposure: full sun. The recommended soil is well-drained, tolerant of poor and calcareous soils. Respect the natural silhouette of the conifer and avoid cutting deeply into parts devoid of foliage. Monitor moisture after planting, including in the fall when the weather is dry. Aeration and drainage are as important as the frequency of watering. Water the root ball before planting and check that water can drain away after planting. During establishment, check the moisture by hand before watering again.
Allow a width of 2–3 m (6.5–10 ft) to arrange this plant's space in the garden. The indicated height of 3–4 m (10–13 ft) helps in choosing its position relative to neighboring plants. Maintain access to the base for weeding, checking moisture, and removing damaged parts. Combine this variety with plants that have compatible light and water needs. If you are considering a container, first check that its volume and drainage are suitable for root development. Roots in pots are more exposed to cold than those planted in the ground.
