Cultivation method:

Sow seeds directly into the ground about 1 cm (0.5 inch) deep, as soon as the soil is workable. Thin out seedlings when they are 8 cm (3 inches) deep to 30 cm (12 inches) apart. Space rows 60 cm (24 inches) apart. Kale 'Kale Cavolo' prefers cool climates and develops its best flavour after a light autumn frost.

For best results, water regularly and keep the soil well weeded. Leaves can be harvested individually from the base of the plant, or the entire plant can be harvested when the leaves reach their optimum size.

Culinary use:

The thick leaves of 'Kale Cavolo' are ideal for a wide variety of preparations:

  • Raw : Chopped and used in salads for a crunchy texture.

  • Cooked : Boiled, sautéed, or incorporated into soups and stews.

  • Kale Chips : Oven roasted with a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt.
