'Salad Bowl' leaf lettuce (Lactuca sativa), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

'Salad Bowl' leaf lettuce is a bright lemon-green variety known for its exceptionally curly, wrinkled, and delightfully tender leaves. Its compact, lightweight heads offer a soft, airy texture perfect for fresh salads. Prized for its mild flavor and attractive appearance, this lettuce performs very well in cool-season crops and provides continuous harvests when regularly cut.

Height: 25 to 30 cm
Spacing: 30 to 35 cm
Sowing: Direct sowing
Exposure: Full sun or partial sun / Partial shade
Quantity per packet: 1,500 seeds, untreated, non-GMO

Cultivation method:

Sow directly outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in spring, placing the seeds 3 mm deep in fertile, cool, and well-drained soil. Space the rows 45 cm apart and ensure consistent moisture to maintain tender leaves and prevent bitterness. For a continuous harvest, sow every two weeks until autumn.

Thin or transplant to 30-35 cm to allow the rosettes to develop fully. Harvest by cutting the outer leaves or taking the whole plant; leaving at least 2.5 cm above the crown will encourage rapid regrowth. Lollo Bionda thrives in cool climates and benefits from light shade during warmer periods.
