A Dazzling Addition to Your Garden

Seeds of Lychnis 'Maltese Cross' (Lychnis chalcedony), offered by the seed company OSC.

Bring a vibrant touch to your borders with these perennials with large umbels of vibrant scarlet flowers. Their fine, almost hairy green foliage provides a unique contrast to the flowers. Ideal for dry, sandy soils, these hardy plants grow to 60-90cm tall, or even taller in optimum conditions. Perfect for cut flowers and popular with pollinators, they add timeless beauty to any garden.

Spread: Varies depending on planting conditions.
Plant height: 60-90 cm.
Quantity per pack: Approx 125 seeds/pkt.
Companion plants: Daisies, lupins, rudbeckias.
Enemy plants: Plants that like very humid soils.

How to Grow:

For first-year flowering, start indoors as early as March. Sow on the surface of a soilless mix and keep at 20°C for 28 days, as seeds require light to germinate. Chill seeds at 5°C for 2-3 weeks before planting out. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in late autumn for natural stratification. Prefers a full sun location.

A perfect choice for perennial flower lovers, Maltese Cross offers a burst of color and attracts pollinators while adapting to various soil types.
