Latin name
Malus domestica Lodi
Common name
‘Lodi’ Apple Tree
Type
Fruit tree
Family
Rosaceae

Malus domestica 'Lodi' is a small, rounded pyramidal apple tree known for its rapid growth and good resistance to common diseases such as scab, powdery mildew, and fire blight, making it an excellent choice for residential orchards and small urban gardens in Quebec. It produces early pale green apples with tender, juicy, and tart flesh, ideal for applesauce, pies, or cooking early in the season. This hardy cultivar tolerates cold well (zone 3) and grows vigorously in well-drained loamy soil, with regular watering during the first few years. Like all apple trees, it is self-sterile: planting another compatible apple tree nearby is necessary to ensure pollination. Its white spring blossoms add ornamental interest while attracting pollinators.
