Organic dill (Anethum graveolens) from McKenzie Seed Company, a fine, fresh, and very easy-to-grow aromatic herb

Organic dill is an annual herb with fine, airy , fern-like foliage, a delicate green that is very decorative in the garden. The plants are slender and topped with umbels of small yellow flowers , which are very attractive to pollinators. The leaves, although thin, are very fragrant and should be harvested regularly to maintain their freshness. This plant quickly develops a light and elegant shape.

Very easy to grow , dill is a must-have in herb gardens . It should be sown directly in the ground , as it does not transplant well. Both the leaves and seeds are used in cooking, making it a doubly useful plant. Attracting bees and other pollinators , it contributes to a balanced vegetable garden. Regular harvesting helps prolong leaf production.

Farming method

Sow dill directly in the garden once the soil has warmed up. Choose a sunny spot, sheltered from strong winds, as the plants can easily be blown over. Sow shallowly, cover lightly, and keep the soil moist until germination.

Regular watering promotes tender, fragrant foliage. For continuous production, sow seeds every few weeks until mid-summer. If the goal is to harvest the leaves, it is advisable to remove the flower stalks as soon as they appear to encourage further foliage growth.

Harvesting and preservation

The leaves can be harvested as needed , ideally before flowering for optimal flavor. They are very suitable for freezing or drying .

To harvest the seeds, let the flowers turn brown on the plant, then cut the umbels and dry them upside down. The ripe seeds are perfect for pickling and preserving.
