Farming method
Morning glory seeds can be sown directly outdoors once the soil has warmed up and all risk of frost has passed . The soil temperature should be below 21°C for optimal germination. As the seeds have a hard seed coat, it is recommended to lightly scarify them and then soak them overnight in room-temperature water to accelerate germination.
Choose a location that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, in full sun or light partial shade . Sow at a depth of 1.3 cm , gently pressing down the soil to ensure good seed-to-soil contact, then water with a fine mist . Keep the soil evenly moist , but not waterlogged, throughout germination, which usually occurs in 10 to 14 days .
When the seedlings have developed 2 to 3 pairs of leaves , thin them out to maintain a spacing of approximately 40 cm , promoting good air circulation and vigorous growth. Install a support at planting time to guide the stems.
For earlier flowering, seeds can be started indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost , then hardened off and transplanted once the danger of frost has passed.
Flowering and maintenance
Flowering typically begins 50 to 80 days after sowing and continues until the first frosts . Moderate watering, equivalent to 2.5 to 5 cm of water per week , is sufficient once the plants are established. Little fertilization is necessary in balanced soil.
