Snapdragon 'Orange Wonder' ( Antirrhinum majus ) , offered by Les Jardins de l'Écoumène

The snapdragon – also known as the wolf's mouth – 'Orange Wonder' is a spectacular and vibrant variety, offering a striking mix of orange, yellow, and purple-pink hues . Highly floriferous, it brightens flowerbeds and cut gardens from early summer until the first frosts . Its generous and prolonged flowering makes it a true focal point in the garden.

Highly prized by bees and bumblebees , this snapdragon is fascinating to watch as pollinators busily gather around its tubular flowers. Hardy as a cut flower , it also holds its shape well in a vase. For optimal growth, a light support or stake is recommended, as the plants can reach up to 90 cm in height . A true horticultural favorite at Écoumène.

Farming method

The snapdragon 'Orange Wonder' can be sown indoors or outdoors . For earlier flowering, start the seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost , at a temperature of 15 to 20°C . Germination usually occurs in 7 to 20 days . Transplant outdoors when all risk of frost has passed.

Plant in full sun , in well-drained, moderately rich soil . Space the plants about 30 cm apart to ensure good air circulation. Regular, but not excessive, watering promotes vigorous growth. Adding a discreet stake helps keep the stems upright, especially in windy locations.

Flowering and maintenance

Removing faded flowers encourages the continuous production of new flower stalks. The stems can be cut regularly for bouquets, which also promotes flowering. Snapdragons tolerate cool temperatures well and often continue to bloom until the first frost .

The 'Orange Wonder' snapdragon is a bright, generous and pollinating plant, perfect for those who want a colorful, vibrant and sustainable garden, from garden to stall.
