Fragrant milkweed

The fragrant milkweed (Asclepias speciosa) offered by Northern Wildflowers, is an elegant and fragrant perennial, perfect for sunny gardens in zones 3 to 9. Native to Western Canada and the US, this plant attracts pollinators with its star-shaped, pink-scented flowers that bloom from July to September. It serves as an essential host plant for monarch butterflies and is less invasive than common milkweed. To preserve its variety and avoid hybridization with common milkweed, ensure a planting distance of at least 2,500 feet.

Spread: 45 to 60 cm
Plant height: 90 to 120 cm

Growing Tips:
For optimal germination, cold stratify seeds by placing them in a moist substrate in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 weeks before sowing them 1/8 inch deep in well-drained soil. Alternatively, sow seeds outdoors in the fall for natural germination. Showy milkweed thrives in full sun and moderately dry to well-drained soil. Note: Its toxic sap can be harmful in grazing areas.

Bring a majestic and ecological touch to your garden with showy milkweed, a plant that beautifies while supporting local biodiversity.
