Yellow False Indigo

Yellow False Indigo (Baptisia tinctoria), offered by Northern Wildflowers, is a vibrant perennial that adds a splash of bright yellow to your garden from June to August. Resembling a small shrub, this hardy plant tolerates tough conditions and enriches the soil by fixing nitrogen, making it a great choice for permaculture gardens. It attracts pollinators and serves as a host plant for Frosted Elfins, Orange Sulphur butterflies, and Wild Indigo Duskywing skippers.

Spread: 30 to 60 cm
Plant height: 30 to 60 cm
Seeds per packet: Approximately 40 seeds
Companion plants: Coneflower, black-eyed Susan, milkweed

Growing Tips:
To promote germination, cold stratify the seeds by placing them in a moist substrate in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 weeks before planting at about 1/8 inch deep. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in late fall. This resilient plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soils. Low-maintenance and hardy, it’s perfect for naturalized or ecological gardens.

Bring color and purpose to your garden with Yellow False Indigo, a stunning plant that supports biodiversity!
